Senior Legal Counsel – Conflicts (City of London)
Our client, a top-tier global law firm, is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to join its Office of the General Counsel (OGC) function, based in the City of London. This is an outstanding opportunity for a lawyer with deep expertise in conflicts, confidentiality, and regulatory compliance to play a pivotal role within a high-performing internal legal team.
The Department
The Office of the General Counsel advises the firm on its legal, regulatory, ethical and governance responsibilities, implementing robust policies and proactive compliance measures that align with the firm’s strategic goals. It oversees conflict checks, AML procedures, professional conduct policies, regulatory obligations, data governance, and the handling of professional claims or complaints.
The Role
The Senior Legal Counsel will act as a trusted advisor to the firm’s leadership, partners, and business support professionals, providing expert guidance on complex legal and regulatory matters – with a particular focus on conflicts of interest and confidentiality.
The role requires a combination of sound legal judgment, commercial awareness, and strategic thinking. You will also be involved in the communication and implementation of policies across the firm’s global offices and play a key role in mitigating risk across various functions.
Key Responsibilities
Advise on complex conflict and confidentiality issues across the firm’s international offices.
Work closely with the Business Intake and Conflicts teams to ensure alignment with policies and US/UK regulatory frameworks.
Provide technical legal input and support escalations from the Conflicts team
Lead and advise on internal investigations relating to conflicts matters
Support reviews and enhancements of existing conflict and risk management processes.
Advise on client terms and conflicts-related provisions
Deliver training sessions to legal teams and business services teams (UK and international)
Support firm-wide risk and compliance initiatives and projects
About You
The ideal candidate will be a UK-qualified solicitor with at least 5 years’ post-qualification experience, gained within the internal legal or risk team of an international law firm.
